Austin’s Mid-Century Modern Look Blew My Mind

Austin’s Mid-Century Modern Look Blew My Mind

I recently snuck out-of-town with my husband for an adult-only weekend to Austin, TX.
We took ourselves quite seriously on the duck tour.
But, we cleaned up nicely.
I think I was picturing a lot of cowboy boots, cowboy hats and Tex Mex. Boy, was I mistaken! Yes, there were tons of cowboy boots, some cowboy hats and definitely LOTS of Tex Mex (man was it good!), but there was this amazing eclectic, fun, kinda hippie town that caught me off guard.
Cowboy Boot heaven!
Austin, has a huge music scene, a lake, some serious hills, an awesome downtown area and some seriously amazing style. I was blown away by the mix of old and modern architecture.
The Driskill Hotel in Austin had amazing architecture.
Stunning ceilings and wood paneling in the W Hotel Austin.
The stores had some crazy good stuff and the people were all interesting (lots of people watching)! They had your big names that we don’t have here in Charleston, such as West Elm and Jonathan Adler. I was in heaven walking into both! I’ve bought plenty of items online, but it’s always so fun to go in and see the stuff in person. Why didn’t I drive a U-haul?!
I just died and went to Jonathan Adler heaven!
These were only $9 at this fun Fair Trade store.
Then we headed to my new favorite store that I’m following on Instagram, Uncommon Objects. I carried home a golden C for my oldest son for his room.
I can’t wait to hang this in my son’s room. Such a rare find!
Other interesting finds at Uncommon Objects.
Here in Charleston we have a lot of antique stores, but we don’t have a lot of mid-century modern items, except for one place owned by a good friend, Charleston Revisions in Mount Pleasant. I could have spent hours in the stores in Austin checking out all the fun items to use in a lot of decorating projects.
Uncommon Objects was on one of the coolest streets in town.
So, needless to say, the Austin adult-only weekend was a huge hit. We enjoyed, the W Hotel – it was GORGEOUS – the Milk and Honey SPA – PHENOMENAL – and a lot of Tex Mex – I have to say Pelones may have been my favorite! Definitely Looking forward to going back!
Pelons had the best Tex Mex and an AMAZING outdoor chandelier.
