Not Your Grandma’s Ranch- Exterior makeover
I’m a little hesitant to do this post because it is winter time and it won’t show as beautifully because our plants aren’t in bloom.
Like most of the work we’ve done on our home there are still finishing touches that I have not, well…finished touching.
So, this is a preview of the work that has been completed thus far…
Remember how I mentioned painting brick? Well, it was a hard decision, we were going to do a white but our neighbors have a white home and I thought that was a little too much…. so we went a little more on taupe side.
Here’s the before….just a friendly reminder of your grandma’s old ranch.
And the after…..
Sorry need to take a better picture but the driveway is HUGE and I couldn’t get it all in!
We obviously painted it and did some additions…well only one addition to the right which is the boys playroom. The dormer above the front door is more attic space.
The driveway is a semi circular coming off the driveway that leads to the garage.
I went with the front door I mentioned previously in the post “Mission Front Door” that I loved- it is pretty and even more lovely at night when we have our lights on. I always wanted a fun light as a statement piece and could not have been happier to stumble across this one. Restoration hardware had a similar one but Lowe’s had this one for a 1/3 of the cost- it makes me super happy!
Here it is up close….it is a dining room light but since our front porch is covered and the light is an oil rubbed bronze I thought it could handle the outdoors.
I had to have modern numbers and these fit the bill- found at lowe’s |
Madly in love with our new plants |
Close up of them…I cannot remember what they’re all called but I love the “whispy” look of them. |
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.

Thank you Melanie!

I think this would make a great inspiration for the exterior renovation I’m planning for our bungalow. Adding a whole floor doesn’t really appeal to me, but I might jump into adding an attic space – credits to this makeover. 😀 It has brought about a total facelift!

Wow! You’ve installed an attic there! The transformation’s great! Installing an attic is a cheaper way to have a new floor for your house and it gave a whole new look to your granny’s house. 🙂

I think the variety of colors really made it much better than the old look. Having those attic extensions also adds a nice touch to the exterior look and also provides extra rooms or storage space for you and the family.

Hi
Would you be so kind as to tell me where I could purchase the craftsman doors on your back porch and your front door?
We have a midcentury modern in Snee Farms, but our primary residence is Pgh. Pa. I spend weeks at a time about every other month
And spend time working on house and looking for things. Do you do color consults and furniture placement?
Thanks
Krystine
Hi Brenda – doors came from Pro Build- it was a special order. I do consult! Just email me from the contract form and we can discuss more in details.

Any reason why none of the pictures are coming up? Is it just my computer? I was trying to see the before and after of your mt. pleasant ranch and none of the pics are showing. Thanks for any info!

Hi Krystine, I am getting ready to paint te exterior of my home and love the color of yours from the back porch renovation.
However, none of the exterior pictures will come up. Could you look into this?
What is the exterior color you use?
Thanks!
Krystine
Ashleigh I am so sorry I never saw this. And I’m even more sorry about the photos. My colors are anonymous gray, amazing gray & urbane bronze. I will redo this post in the next few weeks.
