My Second “One Room Challenge” Starts Today

I absolutely loved participating in the last One Room Challenge (here’s my big guest bedroom reveal), so when I saw another one was about to start, I immediately jumped on it. Why? Because it’s so stressful, it’s fun. πŸ˜‰ And, two, because my poor youngest son’s room needs some major loving.

Here are some items that are catching my attention. Cost wise they’re not in my budget, but I need inspiration and this works!

So, I started this room almost two years ago when Channing was still in a crib. The wall detail was done and painted white. Then, I painted this room a dark taupe and it had a cowhide rug that I had to take out because the smell was too much. Fast forward to his 2nd birthday, and we got a cheap headboard (which is now broken), a new rug (the one you see in these images that I will probably be keeping) & I painted the walls Sherwin Williams First Star. Now, everything else is a hodge-podge and I’m picking up where I left off.

Here’s the current state of his room (yes, I did strip the beds to clean his sheets… out with the old!!)

It's a small place, but still room to work with!

Of course, it's time to shop for new bedding!

OK, my plan for this room includes something like this.

  • New everything!!! (Don’t tell my husband that, please!!!!)
  • Make it him. He’s a dare-devil, strong-willed, vibrant fellow and his room needs to make a statement. I want to include fun elements but keep it simple so that he can grow into it.
  • I want a place for him to sit and hang out. He loves to read and we need to be comfortable doing it!
  • He needs a new color scheme. I think I’ll continue my grey hues from the around the house into this space, but I want to add pops of boyish metal colors and maybe lighten it up some with yellow or gold.

So, on my to purchase or find or make list is:
1. New headboard
2. Lighting
3. A desk
4. Curtains
5. A bench
6. Bedding
7. Accessories
8. Nightstands
9. Dresser
10. Art

Will you join me on this journey? I hope so as I need some encouragement!! Keep up with my ORC blog series each Thursday, and, don’t forget to check out all of the other bloggers participating in this One Room Challenge. They’ll knock your socks off with their design ingenuity. Keep up with me on instagram to see what I’m up to!

You’ve got some serious shopping to do my friend! Love your plans and look forward to following along!

  • October 2, 2014

I love all the simple elements you chose for the room. With the exception of the bed frame, they have a pretty straight forward design, so you definitely could build something to match πŸ™‚ Good luck over the next few weeks, I hope your son appreciates all your hard work!

What a fun space this is going to be. I cannot wait to see your progress and how it all unfolds.

I too am participating in the One Room Challenge. My challenges? I just moved to a completely new state (Texas) last week and therefore have no idea where to source things other than Wal Mart and Home Depot. πŸ™‚ I am currently battling strep throat and just want to lay around and eat soup as opposed to painting a 30 year old polyurethaned oak coffered ceiling that has never before seen paint. The accompanying powder room rivals the worst gas station stall ever. But a bonus is that the previous owners installed a wine glass and bottle holder on the ceiling of the bathroom. I kid you not. Come take a peek.
