I’m super excited today to be talking about this 5 ft” blonde, butt kicking bombshell…meet my friend, Emily.

I have known Emily for at least 10 years, and she is one of my favorites to talk with about home decorating and renovating. She is uber talented and so inspirational!

Emily and I went to the same college but never crossed paths. She studied interior design while I studied computer science. However, we had the same friends and eventually met when we married our husbands, who were great friends in college – crazy stuff!

I’ve been to three of Emily’s homes, and I have to say her current home is hands-down my favorite. I love the exterior and space, and most importantly, I love how she added her own flair to make this home truly spectacular.

Check it out!

She knows how to push the envelope with her great mix of black and bright colors. So, join me on this fun read full of fabulous photos!

Krystine: Which project were you the most excited about?

Emily: The kitchen and screened porch. When we first moved in, we chose the kitchen first. It had windows and doors that closed the room off and we were ready to open it up. I chose white for the kitchen for a clean slate and added a touch of color with artwork.

Krystine: Why did you choose your current home?

Emily: I loved the bone structure of the house. It had good rooms and space and since it hadn’t been renovated before, I felt I was able to put my touch on it. The home was on a great street, and we were looking forward to using all the available space. There weren’t any wasted rooms.

Krystine: Why did you choose black for your walls?

Emily: Black is a basic color that goes with everything. It’s elegant and goes with gold and silver. I’m really pleased with the end result.

Krystine: Tell me about master bathroom. I love the Chevron flooring concept.

Emily: I wanted to do something different but also traditional… although chevron it is a modern trend. I also wanted to transform the closet into a shower. The room is a big space, making it a tough layout, and we didn’t want it too open.

Krystine: I love the twins’ room; especially the closet and muppets mural. How did you come up with it?

Emily: It originated in a Tickle Monster book. I just wanted a happy feeling. I wanted to look at the mural and immediately think about all of our great fun and memories. This is my forever home. We won’t leave again.

Krystine: Where did you find some of your stuff like the bull head in the entry?

Emily: Most of it was handed down from my parents, but I also frequented antique stores. I try to mix it up with low and high end for a collective look. You don’t need expensive pieces to do that. I simply use a variety of elements to capture the right look and mood.

Krystine: What would you call your design style?

Emily: I love the rock-n-roll old glamor look. It’s funky and not too serious like you can’t sit down and get comfortable. That’s why I have Mick Jagger and an autographed Marilyn Monroe in my home. Also, I love the Novogratz on HGTV; they truly inspire me.
