Campaign Desk and Mid Century Sideboard Makeovers
A little drive, a little sanding and a little help from my little man and these two pieces of furniture will be transformed in no time.
I recently took a drive to Georgetown, SC, to pick up a desk for my oldest son’s room. Yes, that’s right, I drove an hour for a piece of furniture… and it’s going to be awesome! I discovered this quaint antique shop and have been known to frequent it for some rare finds.
This was no exception:
This Drexel Heritage desk is about to get a makeover! |
While sophisticated in its current state, I plan on turning this Drexel Heritage desk into a youthful, fun piece, which will serve as a workstation for my soon-to-be kindergartener.
First up, pick a paint color. These selections were quite inspiring…

White Campaign desk from Mouse + Hinge |
Another green option from Material Girls |
Pink power from That Winsome Girl |
But, drumroll…. I’ve selected peacock blue, which will anchor the room and provide a bright, vibrant color next to his new Tuscan Moroccan shag rug.
So, a little sanding, painting and handle polishing with Brasso metal polish and this desk will shine!
Next up… I’m working on a very cool, mid-century modern sideboard by Stanley Furniture.
Stanley Furniture sideboard will stay true to its form. |
I mean, come on, this piece is fabulous and I haven’t even touched it. But, like all things “old,” it could use some sprucing up. So, I’m simply going to sand it all the way down and refinish it back to its original state. A little more polishing with my Brasso, and this piece will make it’s owner extremely happy.
I worked on this piece yesterday with a little help from my little man…
Most husbands buy their wives jewelry, but mine bought me the Dewalt sander, and I have to say that it does a pretty good job! Thanks hubby! It’s putting me and our kids to work. 🙂

Speaking of work… time to get back to it! I’ll share the final pieces with you shortly! Happy sanding!
