Morning y’all! I’m excited to have another fabulous guest on my “guess who’s dropping in for coffee” series. Dominique from Comfy Cozy Couture was another great find via Instagram. I loved her home, her style and her hair, yes all of it is amazing! I began reading her blog, looking at her work and really wanted to get to know this stylish new mama. So, grab your morning beverage of choice and come join me for a fun read with some pretty eye candy too!

1.How or why did Comfy Cozy Couture start?

CCC started when the Mr. and I moved to his hometown of Gainesville, FL for him to attend the University of Florida. I knew absolutely no one (aside from his family) and we had just purchased a new home that I was excited about decorating and making our own! So I thought starting a blog would be a fun way to document all of the projects while keeping up with my family and friends back home. Never in a million years did I think anyone other than my Mom or family members would be reading my blog! It’s been so much fun growing my little space in the web and being a part of such a supportive blogging community. The best part is connecting with my readers and developing so many “virtual” friendships along the way.

2. Did you study design?

Surprise, I didn’t. When I went to college I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I mean, let’s be honest here how do people expect you to know these things at 18? I enjoyed Biology and had a passion for helping people so I thought I would be a doctor. Fast forward 5 years and I had a Biology and Spanish degree and applied to Physician Assistant programs. I wasn’t accepted after applying several times and being relieved that I didn’t get in…when I finally had the light bulb moment the medical field wasn’t for me. Several friends and family members had asked for my help with decorating their homes and I was receiving inquiries about if I offered design services as well so I finally took a leap of faith to launch my own interior design business and haven’t looked back!

3. How would you describe your style?

Classic, Layered and Colorful.

4. What was your first design and what did you learn from it?

Oh goodness, I’m not even sure I remember…maybe a nursery design? I learned the importance of trust between a designer and client. If your clients don’t trust you or your vision to bring everything together the relationship just doesn’t work well for either party involved. Some clients have a really hard time letting go and just enjoying the process and it’s my job to help ease their mind (or shut down their control freak side) and ensure that they will be happy with the final result.

5. What has been your favorite project so far?

I would have to say I’ve loved decorating our current home. There are still a few spaces that need some serious work (i.e. our master bathroom) but it’s been so much fun creating a space that feels like “us.” I love the thrill of the hunt and searching for pieces for my own home has been my favorite part. I have no problem leaving a room or particular space empty until the right piece comes along. My goal is for a room to tell a story and appear “collected” over time rather than purchased at a one-stop shop.

6. Hardest project so far?

Hmmm…I would say renovations are always tough. Unexpected problems arise left and right and you have to be able to constantly “put out fires” and have the dreaded “budget” discussions throughout the entire process. With that being said renovations are often the most rewarding as the before and after can be so drastic!

7. Best thrift store find?

Oh there are so many. Thrifting is one of my favorite things and I believe any piece you love is a major FIND! But one of my favorites is a vintage library card catalog that has the prettiest robin’s egg blue patina. Aside from my Milo Baughman leopard chairs it’s one of the most asked about pieces in our home.

8. You just had a beautiful baby girl, congrats! What was most important to you in creating this nursery as a new mom?

Thank you, it really is the best! I wanted her nursery to be “Grown Up Glam” as I like to call it. So many times I see nurseries that are the epitome of “baby” and they don’t transition well as the child grows. I wanted the space to be somewhere she could grow, learn and love spending time in all the while not screaming BABY.

9. You were offered a free trip to anywhere in the world, where would you go?

This is HARD. There are so many places I’m dying to travel too right now. But if I had to pick one I would say Morocco or Thailand!

10. Favorite ice cream flavor?

Kilwin’s Sea Salt Caramel or Plain Jane Vanilla with Rainbow Sprinkles
