Meet Melaine from My Sweet Savannah
I’m excited to have Melaine from My Sweet Savannah. Melaine was one of the first instagram accounts I discovered. I began reading her blog and was in hooked. I love all different design styles. So, it’s fun to be inspired by her and what I could a rustic style. Her home is welcoming, cozy and stylish. Her DIY projects are fun and fabulous. So, let’s get to know Melaine, shall we?
1.Did you study interior design do you have an interior design background?
I do not have an interior design background but have always been interested in it, and have learned quite a few things over the years.
2. Why did you create the blog and how did you decide on the name?
I started my blog, My Sweet Savannah when my daughter Savannah was about 3. I really didn’t think at the time that anyone would read it, but I found it a good place to collect photos I liked, show people things I had made, etc.
3. You are very creative and rock some serious DIY, from where did this passion come?
I love re-creating things in a more budget friendly version. There is so many wonderful products/ideas out there that are great, if you are rich. But I’d like to show everyone that you don’t need a gazillion dollars to have nice things and a cozy home. You just might need to look outside the box from time to time, that, and get your hands a little dirty.
4. You offer design services, how do you juggle that with your career and family?
I do offer design services for people near and far. I do the majority of my work while the kids are at school and my husband is at his job. I try to leave weekends free for family time, as well as most nights.
5. What has been your hardest project so far?
My hardest project was working with Country Living magazine on decorating a home for one of their issues.
6. What has been your favorite?
My favorite project was getting to work with Country Living magazine on decorating a home for one of their issues. 🙂
7. What has been your best thrift store find that treasure?
There’s been so many, but I’d say my favorite thing was our coffee table which is a old chippy trunk that cost $5.
8. Where do you find your inspiration?
Everywhere, literally everywhere. The usual places like Pinterest, blogs, instagram, and magazines. But I also like to window shop, and even look at nature for inspiration. It really is everywhere.
9. What is your favorite color?
Green!
10. Tell me something readers don’t know about you?
I’ve been with my husband since I was 16, which is odd seeing how we now have a 16 year old. My husband grew up only 5 doors down from where we live now, in a small lakeside community. We have owned this home for 17 years and don’t plan on ever moving.
Thanks friends for dropping by and getting to know Melaine! Hope you’re inspired with her beautiful rustic style as I am!
