Let’s not stress- let’s distress!
I’m super excited that I have my in-laws in town this weekend to help with a couple of important things. As I mentioned before, my father-in-law is an antique dealer in Greenville, SC and he has been curious about distressing furniture. So I’m going to let him have a go at it on two end tables that I have that need a makeover. I’m nervous and excited because I bought milk paint which is made for this type of project and I have yet to use it. I cannot wait to see the results-stay tuned for the reveal next week! (Oh and fingers crossed)
I was taught about furniture distressing by a super fabulous, stylish, little southern go –getter friend of mine! (Yes I have asked her to be a guest on the blog to talk about her process and show some of her beautiful furniture) She and I both sell our pieces at Chic Antique here in Mount Pleasant and I have to say they’re so vogue. I wish I could keep all of the pieces I create and some of hers too!
I’ve redone some pieces recently that I love and have kept. I found a darling sleigh bed for sale on the side of the road in a town called Johns Island here in Charleston and bought it for $25. It was a dark wood that I painted gray and placed in my sons room (pics to come soon when I show Cooper’s finished room). I also did two end tables that I bought a garage sale for $10 that I keep on our screened porch. It takes a lot of time and patience to distress furniture to make it look high end. I have followed two websites/blogs to teach myself how. First of course is the DIY website which gave me great tips and also another blogger who has been doing this for years and has some great pieces that I really want for our home, Miss Mustard Seed. The trick to learn this process is to buy really inexpensive pieces that you can practice on.
The other thing I mentioned about this weekend is super exciting, it’s the Mount Pleasant Home and Garden Show! I’ve been asked to be a part of it because my husband’s construction company, Sceltas, is a vendor there. I love working with his company- they’re just crazy about design, details and doing amazing work like I am. There’s a lot of thought that goes into their new construction and renovation and I love seeing the end results and borrowing a couple of their ideas too. Hope to see some of you locals there!
