Someone Special is Visiting Today – Kristin from Bliss at Home
I’m excited to introduce Kristin from Bliss at Home! I discovered Kristin through Instagram. Then, I had the pleasure of meeting her at Haven. As curious as I am, I of course needed to know more. So, I asked her to join me for “coffee” and the questions and answers began. I loved reading this and getting to know her, and I hope you do too!
Q. Your work is amazing & I know you have a background in art & design. Is that what you studied?
I started out as a Journalism major, believe it or not. If you read my posts you might cringe at that fact! I have always been gifted in art. I can draw, sketch and paint pretty well. It’s one of my few talents. I switched to an art major, and that’s when I found my love of interior design. I have always been a design lover. I would sketch room plans and rearrange my Grandma’s house growing up. Not normal 7-year-old girl behavior. I took two Interior Design courses to fill in some electives and it began an obsession for me with all things design.
Q. What did you before becoming the author & creative stylist behind Bliss at Home?
SAHM. Glamorous, right? Well, I left the exciting world of banking (goo) after my first son was born. I worked as a banker only because where I live designers and artists aren’t in high demand and there weren’t jobs available that fit that mold. We were a young married couple and I had to pay the bills. Yay, for banking!
Q. What has been your favorite project so far?
Oooooh! That is such a tough question! There are so many I love. I would have to say that what I am working on now (super duper top secret!) has to be my favorite in this present moment. I do love my entry makeover I completed recently. If I look to past projects my fireplace makeover or that art I’ve made for my living room rank pretty high.
Q. What has been your most challenging project?
THE WORLDS AWAY KNOCK OFF BAR CABINET. That was the most challenging for many, many reasons. It is the knock off I created for Creating with the Stars this year. I had to be temporarily mentally insane to take on a from scratch furniture build and complete it in a few days… yep… that included the styling and photography, too. I had two all-nighters and lots of coffee to get me through.
Q. When you decorate, what item or items are you most excited about incorporating into your projects?
Art and plants for sure. They just add life to a space in a way no other objects can do.
Q. What is your go to paint color?
White. Is white a color… that’s been argued. Here’s the thing… I might be banned from the design world for this. I love the white off-the-shelf paint. Yes, that one… the white paint base. I know designers and bloggers have posts on finding the perfect white, but I really do use the off-the-shelf white. Don’t turn me in… is that some kind of design sin?!
Q. You recently moved to the east coast for the summer, what prompted that move?
My husband had so much work out East we just decided as a family to join him. It made sense, the boys were out of school, and we had the chance to spend three months visiting places we’ve never been before. It was so, so great! Seeing my boys playing in the ocean for the first time was a happy moment.
Q. Did you find inspiration that you will take back with you from living on the coast?
I am not a coastal decor kind of girl, but I did love the architecture. I pulled a lot of inspiration from our visits to Boston. So much eye candy there!
Q. A little personal, favorite meal?
Italian! Pasta, pasta, pasta. I could eat carbs and drink wine like nobody’s business. I don’t get to have it often now that I’ve embraced a Paleo lifestyle for personal health reasons. Oh, and cheese. Give me an Italian meal of bread, seafood, pasta, Artisan cheeses and wine. I allow myself to do this once a month just so I don’t lose my mind. Sometimes a girl just needs a piece of bread!
Q. You had a ticket to travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Paris. For sure, hands down it would be Paris. It is on the one day list. I hope to make it there within the next couple years. There is so much I want to see there. The Louvre, the gardens at Versailles, the Eiffel Tower. I want to walk the streets, sit outside at the cafes. I want to see the buildings and the bridges over the Seine. Definitely on the must see list!
(I want to go to Paris, too!) Thanks y’all for joining us this morning! Hope you enjoyed Kristin’s beautiful rooms!
