This master bedroom was the second project I was hired for when I started doing interior design. (Check out the first here.) The client – a friend of mine – reached out to me asking for help with this new home she just purchased.

I walked into the room to see this….

I knew I had a project ahead of me! The challenge was that she has a style; the straight-from-the-store and pick-a-room on display kind of style. The other challenge was she wanted help but didn’t fully trust me. She had never worked with anyone to help decorate her home. So, I was nervous about this opportunity and what challenges it was going to bring.

Off the bat there were two things I could not do. First, change the paint color because she just recently painted it green, and second, not buy new furniture. See, she recently purchased the items in the photo and was planning on keeping those as well.

We began with a mood board and bounced ideas off one another. Then, I slowly started putting the room together.

And came up with this… (I have to apologize that the photos are not as high quality. When these were taken we had been suffering from two weeks of rain – terrible lighting, but they needed to be done & will probably be redone in the future.)

I was able to snag this darling side table on clearance at GDC Home Interiors here in Mount Pleasant.

This fabulous bed was a score off of Joss and Main.

I love that it’s white, and I love the details of the nail heads.

The bedding and yellow pillows were a total score at Homegoods and the decorative piece above the bed came from Kirkland’s.

So, as I mentioned before, I had to keep the furniture, but I think it works fine.

I added a more glamorous mirror to the dresser and some accessories to lighten up that part of the space.

And then, the space under the window needed attention. First, I should say that we had the curtains custom made. Then we found this fabulous bench at a consignment store. It works so well for my client because it fills an empty save and serves as a place to drop her things or have a seat when getting ready.

At the end, she was happy and asked me to finish the rest of her home. I was equally as excited to overcome a challenge!
